Pattern Details
Some pieces just settle into your everyday: easy to wear, comfortable, and quietly refined. The Sorrel Pants are one of those pieces. They’re designed as a modern trouser with a subtle barrel shape, relaxed through the leg, gently structured, and sitting naturally at the waist. It’s a silhouette that feels current without being loud, and easy to return to again and again.
You can choose between two waistband options: a version with side elastics or adjustable tabs for a cleaner, more tailored finish. Both offer the same fit, but create a slightly different look. Front pleats and back darts add shape without restricting movement, while slanted pockets and patch back pockets bring in both function and detail. The construction is thoughtful and well-guided, so even techniques like the zip fly feel manageable, even if it’s your first time.
Sorrel is the kind of piece that adapts to your wardrobe. It’s something you can make more than once, in different fabrics, and wear in different ways.
The Sorrel Pants are a high-rise trouser designed to sit securely at the waist while falling into a relaxed, wide leg. The softly sculpted barrel shape adds gentle structure without feeling restrictive, creating a silhouette that feels both refined and easy to wear.

For best results, choose a medium-weight, non-stretch woven fabric with enough structure to support the shape of the garment. The Sorrel Pants were originally designed with corduroy in mind, which works particularly well for this silhouette. Fine- to mid-wale corduroy offers the right balance of structure and softness.
Fabrics with more structure, such as denim or cotton twill, will emphasise the sculptural barrel shape. Lighter fabrics can also be used for a softer, more fluid result with added movement.
We recommend fabrics in the range of approx. 170–300 g/m² (5–9 oz).
Recommended fabrics include:
- Corduroy (top recommendation)
- Cotton twill or drill
- Denim (7–9 oz, non-stretch)
- Structured Tencel
- Lightweight to midweight canvas
- Structured wool suiting
- Linen blends with body
For the pocket bags, use a lightweight woven fabric that is smooth and comfortable to wear.
Suitable options include:
- Cotton lawn
- Cotton poplin
- Fine broadcloth

I waited for this pattern to be released since I saw the preview on Instagram and immediately bought it the day it came out. I enjoyed the pattern a lot. I love the fit and look. I
graded the waist to a few sizes smaller and that worked well. I just had to sew down the fold in the front because it gaped a little because of that. Next time I'll change to bigger pocket bags.
But overall I would recommend the pattern to everyone.
I really enjoyed sewing the Sorrel Pants — it honestly wasn’t as difficult as I expected. The instructions were clear and easy to follow for the most part. I did get a little confused during the waistband section, so I think a sew-along video would be really helpful, especially for visual learners.
Overall, it was a great sew and the fit turned out well. I chose my size based on my hip measurements, but I do think I could have sized down slightly or graded to a smaller waist for a better fit.
I’ll definitely be making another pair!
The written instructions are beautiful, detailed and elegant. This is the second pair of pants I made with a fly zip, and it was effortless. The pants itself is a work of art, it sits beautifully around your waist and then slope down to your hips/ bottom.
